A bit of History
Located in Villedieu-les-Poêles, l'Atelier du Cuivre is recognized in France, Europe and the world for its copperware: bowls, milk canes, etc ... but also for its boilerwork: stills, pots, jam basins and dragees, cookware, bar, etc ...
The peak of the master stoves and dinandiers is between 1700 and 1800, at that time, Villedieu-les-poêles had a hundred workshops. In the twentieth century, industry could not escape mechanization. The manufacture diversified to the detriment of the stoves. Boilermaking took over at the same time as the utility foundry. At the end of the sixties, these industrial or craft companies were about twenty. They employed about 250 people and provided 2,500 outlets.
Today, a few companies perpetuate the industrial legacy of the past ... but for the brassware parts: cans, cauldrons, large jam jars ... only the Atelier du Cuivre can still produce them.
L'Atelier du Cuivre
In the heart of the copper city, The Copper Workshop, is one of the oldest workshops still in activity. We are perpetuating the great tradition of French copperware and gastronomy, which is why great leaders come to see us.
The Atelier du Cuivre is a craft company founded in 1850. This workshop has kept its know-how intact, with the greatest respect for the tradition of brassware. From the production of kitchen utensils to the manufacture of custom-made pieces, our craftsmen work with copper, brass, stainless steel and tin.
Open all year, we are pleased to welcome you to discover our expertise during our guided tours. You will be able to admire and appreciate the technical gestures of repellers, tinsmiths, polishers and hammers as well as a "Best Worker of France".
To make your visit more enjoyable, we offer you a 15-minute introductory instructional film in french, english or german, followed by a guided tour of the workshop with a member of l'Atelier du Cuivre.*
Pets are allowed both in the shop and the workshop.
